How Pending Finds Responsibilities
How automatic discovery works, how Possible Responsibilities review works, and how responsibilities change as conversations evolve.
Reading for responsibilities
Pending looks for the moment a communication makes something yours. That includes direct requests like sending a document by Thursday, implied assignments where the expectation is clear without an explicit ask, and buried requests that arrive in the middle of an unrelated update.
Possible Responsibilities and your review
When Pending is confident something is your responsibility, it can add it automatically. When it is less certain, it creates a Possible Responsibility instead of a confirmed one. You review it and either confirm or dismiss it. Confirmed items join your list; dismissed items disappear. Pending would rather ask than guess, so anything it was not sure about only appears once you have agreed it belongs there.
Responsibilities change as conversations change
Discovery is not a one-time event. When a follow-up message changes a deadline, withdraws a request, or responds to something you are waiting on, Pending updates the responsibility to match and keeps its history. To-do apps wait for you to remember; Pending reads the conversation.
Waiting on Others
Some responsibilities are not yours to complete. When you are waiting on someone else, such as a venue confirmation from a colleague, Pending tracks it in Waiting on Others so the follow-up is never far from your mind. It is a gentle way to keep an eye on what you are owed without chasing anyone.
